An officer from the Darien Police Department was driving behind a blue Toyota Corolla on Tokeneke Road shortly after 2 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23, when he stopped him for having a malfunctioning brake light.
At the time he was stopped, the driver, Stamford resident Andres Farfan, was swerving in and out of his lane. During the subsequent stop, the officer noted that Farfan had the smell of alcohol on him and his eyes were glassy and bloodshot. Farfan also had difficulty concentrating while the two spoke during the stop.
Farfan proceeded to fail multiple Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and he was arrested for operating under the influence. At Darien Police Headquarters, Farfan submitted to a breathalyzer, which showed he had a BAC of .259 at 3:09 a.m. and .229 at 3:20 a.m.
After being processed, Farfan was released on a $500 bond and is due back in court on Tuesday, Dec. 3 to respond to the charge.
